This bill amends the Social Security Act to modify the 'Stark Law' (physician self-referral) rules for physician-owned hospitals. It creates an exemption for new physician-owned hospitals located in rural areas, allowing them to be referred to by their physician-owners. It also removes the existing prohibition on the expansion of physician-owned hospitals, allowing existing ones to grow.
