R. 813 IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES January 28, 2025 Mr. Self introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Agriculture A BILL To amend the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to prohibit the use of supplemental nutrition assistance program benefits to purchase soda. 1. Short title This Act may be cited as the Funding is Zero for Zero Nutrition Options (FIZZ-NO) Act of 2025 . 2. Amendments Section 3 of the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 ( 7 U.S.C. 2012 ) is amended— (1) in subsection (k) by inserting soda, after alcoholic beverages, , and (2) by inserting after subsection (r) the following: (r–1) Soda means a carbonated beverage that contains more than 1 gram of added sugar, artificial sweetener, or flavoring per serving. . 3. Effective date This Act shall take effect 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act.
